A Chelmsford City eleven consisting mainly of Reserve Team players and a small handful of triallists succeeded in recording a late victory in Wednesday night’s friendly against Essex Senior League side Witham Town at Spa Road.  The fixture was arranged at short notice to allow both sides to benefit from valuable match practice and two strikes towards the end of proceedings meant the visitors enjoyed the formalities of a 2-0 scoreline. With eight first teamers in the Bromley squad, a recent narrow loss in a five-goal thriller was a decent achievement for the Clarets’ second string on a drizzly, cold and windy evening at Hayes Lane. Despite going 3-0 down City, including new signing Marlon Patterson, showed spirit and, after a long spell of possession, Brad Hunter brilliantly evaded his marker and was brought down for a penalty.
