Melbourne Stadium, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Blue Square Bet South.
City are looking for back-to-back home victories when they stage their rearranged home clash with Weston-super-Mare tonight, kick-off 7:45pm at Melbourne, and Glenn Pennyfather will tell his players to put in the same performance which earned them three points at the weekend.
The Clarets were excellent 3-1 winners over Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday as they fended off unwelcome weather conditions to come out on top, playing some neat football in spells. Boss Pennyfather wants Chelmsford to continue that trend and take advantage of Weston’s long midweek trip across from the west.
He explained: “It’s a difficult call [the long trip for a night fixture], the same as we’ve got one coming up away against Dorchester so we know how tough it is getting players there and sometimes teams can’t get their full quota there for various reasons like work commitments. I know Weston will be professional enough to make sure they’re prepared as best they possibly can and it’s another tough game.”
“They’re going very, very well and I’ve said previously that they’re the surprise package of the season and they’re right up there. If we can get our own house in order and perform like we did on Saturday, with the same amount of desire, the application’s spot-on and we move the ball as well as we did then it should be a good game.”
Weston are performing admirably in the Blue Square Bet South this season in seventh position. They lost 3-0 at Tonbridge Angels on Saturday but have otherwise been a threat on the road and it took a single 97th-minute winner for Chelmsford to claim the points last season in a 1-0 Melbourne encounter. The reverse fixture this year saw City win 2-1 with goals from Max Cornhill and Kezie Ibe at the Woodspring Stadium.
Adam Tann remains doubtful to appear in the centre of defence for the Clarets, though Mark Haines is available for selection again in that position after returning from a successful loan spell at Bishop’s Stortford. Pennyfather will have been pleased to see Cornhill come through Saturday’s game unscathed but there may be one or two fitness tests required elsewhere before he picks his final eleven.
