Clarets boss Glenn Pennyfather has challenged his squad to rise to the occasion of a realistic chance of silverware in the FA Trophy on Saturday against Bath City, kick-off 3:00pm, and also invited some of last Saturday’s 2,919 spectators to return again and take advantage of the club’s FA Cup ticket incentives.

Chelmsford continue along another potential path to Wembley this weekend for the visit of the Blue Square Bet Premier’s bottom club, hoping to build on the excitement the clash with Macclesfield Town has generated. But Pennyfather has also warned his players not to get carried away with the attention they’ve been attracting. Bookmakers have made the Clarets favourites to topple Bath, but does Glenn agree?

“Not at all,” he said. “The current status shows that they’re higher placed than us and people should be expecting them to win. We’re not underestimating how tough it’s going to be as they’ve been in the Conference Premier for two seasons and, although they haven’t been getting the results, the reports I’m getting are that they’ve been playing well. It’s a big game and it would be great for everyone to get through.”

Bath gained promotion to non-league’s top flight two seasons ago, progressing through the play-offs at the expense of Chelmsford in the semi-finals. In their first campaign they finished in a creditable tenth position yet this season has proved much less successful as the Twerton Park outfit find themselves at the foot of the table, without a win on their travels. On Tuesday they lost 4-1 at Kidderminster Harriers.

Although preserving their position in the Conference National will be their biggest goal, Pennyfather doesn’t believe that makes them an easy prospect, adding: “They’ll want to get some consistency going and start a winning and unbeaten habit. Their boss, Aidy Britton, will be keen to do well and put a run together and the FA Trophy can prove a good distraction which can help to lift a club’s supporters.”

Sam Corcoran will be missing from the Chelmsford midfield after accumulating five yellow cards, though goalkeeper Stuart Searle, right-back Justin Miller and playmaker Max Cornhill have all recovered from knocks picked up in Monday’s 2-0 win against Maidenhead United. Several other players face fitness tests, while long-term absentee Anthony Cook will see a specialist at the end of the month.

If Chelmsford beat Macclesfield in the FA Cup on Wednesday, they’ll meet Premier Leaguers Bolton Wanderers in Round Three. All fans attending the Bath game will be issued with a voucher to give them the opportunity of a Bolton ticket before they go on open sale. Similar vouchers will be also handed out at the Macclesfield replay and fans holding both vouchers will be given additional priority for Bolton tickets.
