City have developed a “mentality of not losing” in the league according to Manager Glenn Pennyfather, an he’ll be aiming for that to continue at Boreham Wood tonight (kick-off 7:45pm at Meadow Park) when the Clarets face a difficult encounter with the aim of heading into Christmas three points better off.

City have won nine and drawn nine of their 20 games so far, being overcome in just two against Truro City and Dover Athletic at home, and the team celebrated a club record 14th consecutive away league game without defeat when they drew 1-1 at Basingstoke Town on Saturday. Glenn was delighted to see more history being made but he admitted it will count for less if they don’t produce the goods in Hertfordshire this evening.

He said: “The game’s come a bit quicker than we would have liked but we’ve got the opportunity to head into Christmas in a really strong position. After a reasonably slow start, having had a huge change of personnel and struggling a bit with our home form, it’s good to look back and see that we’ve only had two defeats.”

“We really need to build on that now the league is our sole focus. All our games are important, and history shows you can’t lose many if you want to be successful. We’ve had a few too many draws so far this season but we have a mentality of not losing. I know I have a bunch of honest players who will do their best for the team.”

Boreham Wood are adjusting well to this level of football after completing their first full campaign in 2010/11 in mid table. They currently occupy 11th position in the table with an impressive home record, winning six of their nine games. Wood lost 2-0 at Eastleigh at the weekend but did hold City to a goalless draw at Melbourne in September.

If Chelmsford are to maintain their run they’ll have to do it without wingers Ricky Modeste and Warren Whitely, who join long-term absentee Anthony Cook on the treatment table through injury. There will be fitness tests for central defender Adam Tann and wide man Greg Morgan though striker Cliff Akurang could return having sat out the game on Saturday.
