City have second place in the Blue Square Bet South in their sights as they make the short journey for a 1:00pm kick-off against local rivals Thurrock at Ship Lane, but Manager Glenn Pennyfather is expecting nothing less than a difficult 90 minutes having seen the Clarets edge past the Fleet on Boxing Day.

The two sides took part in a competitive Melbourne encounter last week, David Rainford’s penalty separating the two sides, and Pennyfather will pay little attention to the fact City’s opponents are bottom of the table when they meet this time around. “Thurrock made it very difficult for us in the original match and they’ll do that again, probably even more so on their own patch,” Glenn explained, hoping a few pre-match fitness tests go his way.

“We’re two points behind Welling [in second] and, although I’d have liked Woking to be closer, I think we’d have taken this position at the start of the season. We’ve got 20 games to go and we’ve just got to keep winning. I know one or two managers have said it’s Woking’s league, but there are other sides who’ll have a big say in it, including us. We’ve got to keep showing the consistency we have, then the future looks bright.”
