Glenn Pennyfather has urged City’s fans to dig out their archive replica shirts to wear to the Clarets ‘Retro Weekend’ fixture at home to Bromley this Saturday in the Blue Square Bet South, kick-off 3:00pm, and reiterated his desire to lead the club back to their halcyon days of past decades.

Speaking at the City vs Romford Legends Evening organised by the Supporters Club on Thursday night, Glenn marvelled in the stories relayed by former players such as Bobby Smith, Peter Gillott, Ollie Hopkins and Tony Butcher. The Club are now asking fans to mark Saturday’s home game by showing off shirts from days gone by.

“I’m aware of all the history the club has and some of the epic games down at New Writtle Street so it will be good to relive some of those memories,” said Pennyfather, who leads his team out at Melbourne against mid-table Bromley. “I’m looking forward to seeing what some of the Clarets’ old kits look like as well!”

“I’ve enjoyed watching some of the legends event after training and it’s incredible to hear their recollections and anecdotes. It’s clear that Chelmsford City have always been a massive non-league club, with some outstanding players, so hopefully we can live up to that reputation and bring some more success to the fans.”

Glenn will be without wide men Ricky Modeste and Greg Morgan for the visit of the Kent club, while striker Cliff Akurang is suspended. Bromley are 17th in the table but have won three and drawn one of their eight away games so far. Their last league match was a defeat at Boreham Wood, preceded by a home loss to Dover Athletic.
