Saturday 5th November 2011, The Rushmoor Stadium, Kick-Off 3:00pm, Blue Square Bet South.
City will look to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games on Saturday afternoon when they travel to out-of-sorts Farnborough in the Blue Square Bet South, kick-off 3:00pm at The Rushmoor Stadium, and Glenn Pennyfather is keen to get six points from the next two games before even thinking about the FA Cup.
The Clarets’ boss has seen his team make it through to the First Round Proper of the Cup after a midweek replay win at Gloucester City but he admits that run will mean little if his squad don’t keep up with the pace on their domestic scene. Chelmsford currently sit in sixth place, within sight of the leading pack, and a win could propel them into the play-off places.
“Everyone’s enjoyed our run in the FA Cup so far but we must remember that our primary target for the season is success in the league, first and foremost,” explained Glenn. “Our next game is always the most important one and Telford is some way off yet, so we’ve got to focus all our energies on getting these points at Farnborough.”
Midfielders David Rainford and Craig Parker, winger Greg Morgan and right-back Justin Miller are all doubtful for the trip as they continue their recoveries from injury, though Pennyfather is confident the rest of his squad will be available to feature. They will face a Farnborough side who are currently struggling towards the wrong end of the table.
Boro are in 19th position, one place above the drop zone, having won two and lost five of their seven home games to date. Their last result was a 5-0 loss at Havant & Waterlooville last Saturday which was preceded by an 8-2 drubbing away against Truro City the previous Tuesday. Despite the obvious form implications - City have succeeded in all but two of their games on the road, which they drew - Glenn is determined not to take the match lightly.
He added: “They have some very talented players down there and we’re expecting a very tough game, like we always do in this division. They’ve changed a lot of their squad around over the summer and it always takes time to adjust after a rotation like that. But we still maintain our confidence which comes from our excellent away form and we’ll be ready.”
