Kingfield Stadium, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Blue Square Bet South.
“The pressure’s all on Woking” assured City Manager Glenn Pennyfather as his side look to maintain their excellent record on their travels tonight at the Kingfield Stadium against the league leaders, and he claims he can’t wait for the two sides to do battle in the 7:45pm Blue Square Bet South kick-off.
The match, rescheduled due to the Clarets’ FA Cup progress, has been much-anticipated by both clubs and a win for City would see them move up to third in the table, while the Cards hope to extend their gap at the summit to six points. Glenn’s team are building an incredible unbeaten run and he claimed: “It’s certainly one of the biggest games of the season, but whether it will be the biggest - time will tell as neither side knows for sure what’s ahead.”
“It may even turn out to be a more important game later on than at the present time. They have a great home record and we’re brilliant away and on a fantastic run. Woking have set the standard but I think people have been running scared and someone needs to step up to the plate against them. It’ll make for a good spectacle for the big crowd that will be there.”
Woking are clear at the top having lost just once so far in the league this season, away at Welling United. Their home form is formidable, winning six of the eight fixtures. He added: “We’ve got to aspire to be in the position they’re in at the top and it’ll be a tough place to go. But the pressure’s all on them, being at home, and we have to go there and do what we can. It’s a game neither side will want to lose and both will be eager to win.”
Striker Cliff Akurang serves the last game of his three-match suspension at the Kingfield Stadium, while wingers Greg Morgan, Ricky Modeste and Anthony Cook all miss out through injury. Several fitness tests will also be required and Glenn said: “It’s a shame because I know Cliff will have caused them problems. It’s a test of our squad which Woking haven’t had yet and if you take four or five out of any side it will have an impact.”
