Melbourne Stadium, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Blue Square Bet South.
City will have Captain David Rainford at their disposal again for Monday night’s visit of Dorchester Town to Melbourne Stadium, kick-off 7:45pm in the Blue Square Bet South, Manager Glenn Pennyfather warning his squad to take the Dorset club seriously as the visitors play for their places.
Rainford was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Farnborough and Glenn now faces the choice of whether to include him in the starting line-up against a side under new management following the recent departure of Ashley Vickers. Fitness tests will be handed to right-back Justin Miller and winger Greg Morgan before the game, and the City boss wants their unbeaten run to grow to 14 matches.
“They’ve got a caretaker manager in place and achieved a great result on Saturday so this will be a very tough game,” explained Pennyfather. “Sometimes a change in staff gives everyone a lift when there’s a change from the previous reign as their all looking to make an impression on the new guys in charge. We’ll have to be wary of that.”
The Clarets scored another early goal to add to their collection at the weekend, and Glenn thinks he knows why his team always assert themselves in the opening minutes: “We just seem to get out of the blocks very well. On Saturday we should have killed the game off because a 1-0 lead can be a precarious position and you need to push on. But we’ve got pace, energy and drive which sees us start well.”
Dorchester have hit form recently and have jumped up to 11th in the table. With no drawn matches either at home or away this season their games appear to be open encounters and they ended Basingstoke Town’s 13-match unbeaten stint on Saturday with a 2-1 home win. Pennyfather will be keen to ensure no more runs are left tumbling at Melbourne as City look to gain ground on the top four.
