Saturday 26th November 2011, Melbourne Stadium, Kick-Off 3:00pm, FA Carlsberg Trophy Third Qualifying Round.
City boss Glenn Pennyfather thinks this Saturday’s FA Trophy clash against Woking will have no impact on either side’s promotion ambitions over the season, but he repeated his belief that “winning is a habit” and reinforced the desire in the dressing room is to advance in the competition.
The Clarets and the Cards have already met this week, drawing 1-1 at the Kingfield Stadium on Tuesday as Adam Doyle’s opener for the hosts was levelled by Craig Parker in the first half. Now they lock horns again in the Third Qualifying Round of the Trophy, kick-off 3:00pm, looking to put into action what they learned.
“We both found a little bit out about each other on Tuesday night but this will still be a tough game for both sides,” said Glenn, preparing for the next instalment against the league leaders. “We want to progress and do well and I’m a greedy manager who wants to win every game. Both clubs have the priority of promotion but winning is a habit whatever competition you’re in, so I want our recent run to continue.”
Pennyfather will receive a boost with the return to availability of striker Cliff Akurang, who has now completed his three-match suspension for a dismissal against Gloucester City. The trio of injured wingers, Greg Morgan, Ricky Modeste and Anthony Cook, all remain on the sidelines and there will also be a couple of fitness tests.
The Chelmsford Manager is looking forward to another test against the Surrey side, and claims he’ll treat them no different to any other opponents. Glenn continued: “As managers and staff we have to give the players the mental strength to win every game. I have no preference who we beat and the players wouldn’t get any more or less praise for beating Woking than they would for anyone else.”
