COUNTY CUP under 12s
Chelmsford City Whites 3 Dagenham United 3 (Chelmsford won 6-4 in extra time)
A tough County Cup encounter had Chelmsford hosting Dagenham United at home. The home side got off to a great start, scoring after approx 30-40 seconds to go 1-0 up! However Dagenham came back into the game and found themselves 2-1 up. Alex Clark, who scored the first for Chelmsford, then added to his tally by scoring a second to go into half time 2-2. In a scrappy second half Dagenham once again took the lead against the run of play and things were looking grim for the home side even though they continued to put the pressure on for an equaliser. Things paid off when Kieren Fyfe slotted in from 6ft, five minutes from time, from a well laid off ball across the line.
So into extra time and within a short period Chelmsford went into a 6-3 lead with goals from Miles Beacham, a tremendous free kick from Michael Ioannou and Marley putting the game what was thought, beyond doubt. Within a minute though Dagenham had made it 6-4 and were then awarded a free kick 2-3 minutes from time. Fortunately for Chelmsford it went wide otherwise it could have led to a very tense last few minutes.
Chelmsford ended up deserved winners as they were the better side overall but credit to Dagenham for a spirited performance. There seemed to be some gamesmanship going on including some feigned injuries made to look worse than they were and its not always good to see in kids football. Good luck to Chelmsford in the next round!
