Glenn Pennyfather admits there will be an element of revenge in his mind when his Chelmsford City team take on Gloucester City in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, but his priority will be to win through one more stage and ensure his side are in the hat with the Football League clubs in Round One.

The Blue Square Bet North club knocked the Clarets out of the FA Trophy last season courtesy of a controversial goal and Pennyfather is keen to advance at their expense this time around to take a place in the draw at 1:30pm on Sunday. The West Country side will also feature ex-Chelmsford favourite Matthew Lock in their squad, with Glenn wishing him well for the rest of the season... but only after the teams have met!

“Those factors will add spice to it, that’s for sure,” Glenn explained. “Locky will relish coming back as he made a lot of friends here and I can’t say enough good things about him. He conducted himself well and I think he left a better player. Hopefully he won’t have too good a game on Saturday! We lost to a dubious goal last year, as Locky will remember as remonstrated as much as anyone else with the referee!”

Gloucester thrashed Conference South side Truro City by a healthy margin in the last round, Glenn adding: “All we could ask for in the draw was a home one, and it’ll be good to see Matthew again. It’s not going to be an easy game as they’re off the back of some super results themselves where they’ve beaten a side in our league - not just beaten them but they’ve put them to bed with seven goals, which is unbelievable.”

Chelmsford will give late fitness tests to a number of players ahead of the tie, with new striker Michael Bakare missing out having already played in the competition for Bishop’s Stortford. Pennyfather could have extra options available on his seven-man substitutes bench having signed on goalkeeper Ashley Harrison as cover as well as youngsters Ryan Batchford and Ross Lamb.
