Saturday 17th September 2011, Woodspring Stadium, Kick-Off 3:00pm, Blue Square Bet South.

Manager Glenn Pennyfather says the depth of his squad will be vital as Chelmsford City approach a quick-fire Blue Square Bet South double this weekend, beginning with a trip to North Somerset to face fifth-placed Weston-super-Mare on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 3:00pm at the Woodspring Stadium.

The Clarets will then host Tonbridge Angels at home on Monday night and the Clarets’ boss claimed he might be in a position to use most of his players over the two games, claiming: “It’ll be a long journey - about three hours each way - but we’re used to being on the road. It’s going to be tough playing two difficult games in three days but that’s where our squad might come into play as everyone has the quality and application to compete for a place in the team.”

Weston were humbled 4-0 at home by Dartford on the opening day, followed by a further 4-1 loss at Basingstoke Town that midweek, but their recovery has been remarkable. They’ve won five of their last six games, only missing out at Eastleigh, and have scored 16 goals in the process as Thurrock, Havant & Waterlooville, Salisbury City, Boreham Wood and Maidenhead United were dispatched as the Seagulls fought their way into the top five.

There will be pre-match fitness tests for central defender Adam Tann and winger Ricky Modeste to assess their conditions. Wide man Anthony Cook continues to make remarkable progress with his recovery from a long-term lay-off and he could return to the squad sooner than expected, while Craig Parker is also on the road towards a return to training in the future. Thursday’s session was a productive one and Glenn is looking forward to a new arrival soon.

City’s ‘Let There Be Light’ campaign to raise cash to put towards some portable training lights is a project he knows the squad and Management Team are right behind. One complete, it will make the team’s training options much more flexible, especially now the evenings are starting to draw in as we head towards winter, and he said: “The work of the Supporters Club has been magnificent and we can’t wait for the arrival of the lights.”

“They’ll enable us to train when we want and start earlier, which will be a massive boost to the squad. I take my hat off to everyone who’s playing their part as fundraising has a vital role to play in clubs of our size. Non-League Day wasn’t a one-off - we’re all in this together as a family and every one of us has a part to play in Chelmsford’s success.”
