Wheatsheaf Park, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Blue Square Bet South.

City Manager Glenn Pennyfather claims he won’t be overly concerned if his team haven’t built a lead by half time at Staines Town tonight, kick-off 7:45pm in the Blue Square Bet South. And he’ll have a new loanee goalkeeper in Carl Pentney at the other end to try and shut out the Swans at Wheatsheaf Park.

The Clarets have a 100% record away from home so far this season and have sprinted out of the blocks to gain a healthy advantage in all three, but the City boss is keen to gather three points from a testing away fixture however they come. “I don’t know about the supporters,” he said, “but I won’t be pressing any panic buttons if that’s the case!”

“Staines have made an indifferent start like we have but they like to try and play football and it will be another tough game for us. They’re sharp around their front line and Wheatsheaf Park is never an easy place to go and get a result. However, it will be a difficult test for Staines too as we’re confident and playing for victory as we always do.”

Chelmsford’s opponents currently occupy 19th position in the table having won one and lost two of their three home fixtures. The Swans lost out by a single own goal at Farnborough at the weekend which followed a 3-2 defeat by visiting Thurrock in midweek. Their losses so far haven’t been by more than a goal, which suggests a steely determination.

A new injury issue for Glenn to contend with sees ‘keeper Stuart Searle sidelined with a groin strain which will keep him out for at least a fortnight. However, he’s been quick to draft in Colchester United custodian Pentney as cover for a month, explaining: “We had Carl on loan last season and we’re glad to be able to bring in someone of such quality.”

There has been promising news elsewhere with regards the fitness of Adam Tann, who has missed the last few games with a back strain. He is featuring in full training again and could be in contention for a place in City’s squad for the trip to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday. Meanwhile midfielder Craig Parker has had the protective boot removed from his injured foot.
