The Beveree, Kick-Off 3:00pm, Blue Square Bet South.

Manager Glenn Pennyfather highlighted his City team's "perfect reaction" to defeat last week as the rampant Clarets dominated Hampton & Richmond Borough at the Beveree, goals from four different players inflicting a 4-0 loss on the Middlesex hosts.

City went down themselves at home to Dover Athletic seven days ago and Pennyfather was pleased that his charges bounced back at the first attempt. Aiden Palmer, David Rainford from the penalty spot, Mark Haines and Cliff Akurang all converted, while Hampton missed a spot kick of their own.

Glenn reacted: "We were brilliant after the disappointment of last week and the back four reacted well after I dug out our defence against Dover. Away from home the pitches are bigger and the onus is on the home team to attack. With the pace we have and the way we play we can cause most teams problems anywhere, it's just about getting it all right at once!"

Justin Miller came in for injured Ben Nunn at right-back as Glenn made just one change to a starting line-up which was thrust straight into the action. A ball into Akurang in the 2nd minute was well saved by goalkeeper Rodney Chiweshe but, from the resulting corner, Aiden Palmer's swinging delivery was helped into his own net by the Hampton custodian.

Ricky Modeste had another chance just afterwards though the game went quiet until an incredible three-minute spell around the middle of the half. On 21 minutes a long ball forward resulted in a Clarets penalty when Callum Stewart fouled Modeste. Rainford stepped up and made no mistake in slamming the spot kick to Chiweshe's right for the second.

Literally within 60 seconds it was three. Terrible defending from the hosts culminated in the ball squeezing through Chiweshe's body and, as Tarpey went to clear, it ricocheted off of Haines' knee into the goal. Again just a minute passed before the next major incident as Jermaine Brown brought down Dave Tarpey for a penalty at the other end. Jacob Erskine took it but Stuart Searle saved well to his right.

It was a frantic period yet there was still plenty of action to come as Modeste crossed into Akurang on 26 minutes but Chiweshe jumped on the ball. The Beavers had chances of their own, too, Tarpey getting on the end of a header into the box and acrobatically rattling the crossbar. Searle also saved later on from James Simmonds.

In the dying moments of the first half Rainford chipped an inviting cross into the area which found Akurang, who couldn't force it home, while Searle took no risks in turning a Hampton free kick round the post. The openings continued after the interval, Brown threatening Hampton with a long-ranger and Tarpey missing a sitter for the hosts following Charlie Noone's delivery across the face.

Modeste teed-up Rainford on 67 minutes, the City skipper bringing a good save out of Chiweshe, though the Clarets added a fourth in the 69th. Substitutes combined when Sam Corcoran's excellent cross-field pass found Joe Benjamin and he made his way into the box before squaring for Akurang to head in.

Chelmsford were in control and could have converted for a fifth time when Kenny Clark forced Chiweshe into another intervention while Corcoran's long-range stunner clipped the top of the bar on its way over. Searle had to direct a Noone shot round the upright later on though City maintained their clean sheet.

"Confidence has never been a problem in this squad as they're all very good together and this result will do us no harm," Glenn concluded. "Looking back at all our home games we've gifted the opposition goals and could have won all of them, so we'll play our game in hand on Tuesday then see where we are."
