Saturday 24th September 2011, Melbourne Stadium, Kick-Off 3:00pm, Blue Square Bet South.

Glenn Pennyfather claims his City squad are “doubly determined” to defeat Boreham Wood in this Saturday’s Blue Square Bet South encounter at Melbourne Stadium, kick-off 3:00pm, after conceding a late leveller which denied them two points against Tonbridge Angels on Monday night.

The team received a post-match dressing down for surrendering a half time two-goal advantage but he explained that’s now been analysed and the team are desperate to move on with victory against the Hertfordshire side. Speaking after Thursday night’s intense training session, he stated: “We’re out to win this one after the massive disappointment and fallout from Monday as we wanted to start a winning run.”

“We were 2-0 up and flying but a culmination of factors meant we were defending deeper and deeper. We can be very critical of the players sometimes it’s forgotten how young these individuals are - the oldest in the defence was just 22 years old. They’re gradually getting more and more experienced.”

Boreham Wood currently occupy one of the relegation spots in the league table but Glenn is still wary of them, especially as they caused a shock by defeating previous leaders Welling United on Monday night. Midfielder Craig Parker and goalkeeper Stuart Searle are the only injuries ahead of the game, though both are recovering well and Parker is back training with his team mates again after a long lay-off.

Glenn also took time to comment on the Clarets’ FA Cup Second Qualifying Round Draw, which pairs them with Tonbridge again the following Saturday at Melbourne. “The cup tie will be a completely different game,” he said. “It will have a different structure. They’ll come here hoping to progress but we’ll be confident too as we found out last year how a cup run can boost finances and lift the whole club.”
