Saturday 20th August 2011, Westleigh Park, Kick-Off 3:00pm, Blue Square Bet South.

Clarets boss Glenn Pennyfather expressed his sorrow for the recent loss of Staines Town Chairman Alan Boon after Thursday night’s City training session, then reiterated his side’s commitment to adding their first points to the Blue Square Bet South table at Havant & Waterlooville this weekend.

Chelmsford missed out on the chance to bounce straight back from their opening day defeat against Truro City when the scheduled trip to Staines on Tuesday was postponed due to the sad passing of the Swans’ chief a few days earlier. Glenn recalled plentiful happy moments shared with Boon and wished to add his condolences.

“As soon as we found out what had happened we had no complaints about the postponement, and agreed straight away,” Pennyfather explained. “Jeff [King] and I had met Alan on a number of occasions in our years with Canvey Island and City and he was a lovely man who we enjoyed many conversations with. He’ll be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.”

Glenn’s next opportunity to start the ball rolling comes on Saturday with his team’s 3:00pm kick-off in Hampshire. Havant have so far lost at home to Welling United, 2-1 in midweek, and secured a 1-0 victory at Boreham Wood on the opening weekend. Shaun Gale’s side are always amongst the fancied teams at the start of each season and the Clarets’ Manager believes this year will be no different.

City won there, 2-1, last season and Glenn added: “Havant is a difficult place to go and get a result, as we’ve found out over the years, but we’re looking forward to the challenge and it’s imperative that we get our first points on the board as soon as possible. Results have been a mixed bag for Havant so far and we did well there last year.”

On the Truro match, Pennyfather reflected: “I’ve watched the DVD of the game and we actually played more poorly than I thought we did on the day, especially in the first half. We weren’t passing the ball as well as we were capable of and we were doing none of the stuff we’d practiced in pre-season. Then obviously we were disappointed not to be able to respond on Tuesday at Staines but these things happen in football.”

At Havant he’ll be boosted by news that defender Justin Miller is back in contention for a place in the side after recovering from a muscle strain, while winger Greg Morgan has also returned from his family commitments. Joe Benjamin and Ricky Modeste, who both left last Saturday’s game early with tweaks, are also fit to feature.
