Melbourne Stadium, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Blue Square Bet South.
Clarets boss Glenn Pennyfather is looking forward to his Chelmsford City squad seizing the impetus from their win on Saturday with another victory over last year’s play-off final runners-up Farnborough this evening, kick-off 7:45pm, as every player competes for a place in the starting eleven.
Chelmsford produced an accomplished display against another highly-rated side, Havant & Waterlooville, at the weekend and now Glenn hopes his team can build on that first triumph with three more points from the first floodlit game of the season at Melbourne. However, he as well aware of the challenge the Hampshire team will pose.
“There are no easy matches in this division - so we have to make sure we’re right on our game if we want a positive result,” he explained. “We’re a game behind everybody else so that adds extra pressure to get points. Farnborough are a much-changed side from last year but they’re still very strong. There are some excellent teams in this league with the likes of Dover and Woking and this will be another tough fixture.”
Other than long-term injury victims Anthony Cook and Craig Parker in the midfield, Glenn has a full array of first teamers to select from. Central defender Adam Tann has fully recovered from a muscle twinge sustained at Havant, while the substitution of both his wingers at Westleigh Park was purely to utilise his substitutes.
He added: “I took the wide boys off on Saturday as they’d done their work and run themselves into the ground so I wanted to throw on some fresh legs. They’re refreshed and raring to go again. We’ve still got a relatively new group of players but belief is flowing through their bodies and they’re eager for every match to start.”
