U10 Clarets Champions Again

Chelmsford City Under 10 Clarets

Match Report – March 13th 2011

Chelmsford City  1     v    Hannakins Farm 0

This game saw Hannakins arrive as the only team that could prevent Chelmsford retaining their league title with City requiring a point. The conditions were perfect, the crowd excited and they were treated to the best game of football (and the tensest) this season as these two well matched teams threw everything at each other.

The first half saw both defences largely on top as they were able to restrict the opposition to shots from distance. Both Tyrese Fairmaner and James Barry both had goal bound efforts caught securely by the Hannakins keeper and this was to be a feature of the match. At the other end Archie McClelland and Jacob Lodge were commanding in breaking up attacks and keeping the opposition to shots from distance that were handled safely by Harry Gooch. Going forward Lewis Chapman was causing danger with his long throws which nearly found Bradley Buscall. The best chance did arrive to the visitors as a shot was parried by Gooch and the onrushing forward could only poke it against the post.

The second half was much of the same with Harrison Woods breaking forward from defence to add to the threat from City. But once again it was defences on top with both keepers displaying safe handling. That was until from an attack down the right the ball arrived at the feet of Fairmaner who flicked the ball over the head of the oncoming defender and then on the half volley unleashed a fantastic effort that flew into the corner of the goal with the keeper helpless.

That spurred on Hannakins to push forward in an effort to get the win they needed but the City defence were resolute throwing themselves in to win tackles and headers. A final chance arrived as Barry played in Woods whose effort beat the keeper but was cleared from a yard out. As the final  whistle arrived both teams were exhausted following their efforts but not so tired to stop them celebrating their second championship with the parents.

The boys have fully deserved their league win having won 15 out of 17 games with only 1 defeat, they have once again scored more goals and conceded less than any other team. They have been the team to beat over the last 2 seasons in Mini Soccer and can now make the switch to 9 a side with confidence.

Well done boys.
