City Chairman Mansell Wallace has invited Premier League or Championship followers to come and try their local club this Saturday on ‘Non-League Day’, a specially-designated date which coincides with the Clarets’ home game against Dorchester Town.

Wallace rates the Blue Square Bet South fixture, kick-off 3:00pm, as a perfect chance for new faces to visit Melbourne Stadium, maybe for the first time, while Chelmsford enjoy riding high in the league table after a season opening which has included four wins from six games. He claims a matchday football experience is perfect for all the family.

“Come to Chelmsford City, or any non-league game, and see football where people are playing for the colour of the shirt and not necessarily for the money they’re being paid,” he said. “It’s good, genuine, honest football and we try and have a family atmosphere. It’s small, it’s special, you can mingle with the players before and after the game and you haven’t got the restrictions of the big clubs – it’s just a good family day out.”

“Living so close to London with a lot of big London clubs, a lot of people traditionally in Chelmsford have moved out of London so they’ve grown up and went to school in the local area to their teams. But we are finding a lot of people are coming here when their own club is playing away so perhaps their children who have been brought up in Chelmsford will then become Chelmsford supporters. So there could be a reversal over another five or six years where Chelmsford is their first club.”

Non-League Football Day is the brainchild of James Doe, a lifelong football fan and follower of Harrow Borough. Its aim is to promote the English semi-professional game by virtue of a fortuitous break in the football calendar for the top two divisions. What began as a social networking group has become an overnight sensation, with patronage coming from radio station BBC London and the Football Supporters’ Federation along with the launch of a dedicated web presence at www.nonleagueday.co.uk.

James said: “With England playing on Friday and the Premier League and Championship taking a week off, I urge all fans to get out and watch their local non-league team instead on Saturday. Given the current financial climate, clubs outside the League need all the support they can get, so your presence at a game will be genuinely appreciated. With tickets and refreshments at a fraction of the cost, what’s stopping you?”

Conference Signs Unique TV Deal: In a ground breaking deal, which will be a first in English football between a major competition and a broadcaster, the Football Conference has signed up to a unique partnership with Premier Sports TV to show 30 matches per season from the Blue Square Bet Premier over the next three years, including the Premier play-off games.

The joint enterprise with Premier Sports sees the Conference offering the opportunity to watch all that’s good outside the Premier and Football Leagues as subscriptions are up for grabs at a monthly fee of just £6.99. The uniqueness of the deal, over and above the normal rights fee paid by the broadcaster to the competition, will see the Conference receive 50% of all subscriptions once a nominal level of subscribers has been reached.

Despite the fact that 12 months ago the Conference lost their then broadcaster partner due to financial reasons, they have bounced back strongly from that adversity to again lead the way with this deal. The full details attached to the partnership are being conveyed to member clubs first before these are made public together with the actual format and first tranche of matches being revealed.

Fans of the Blue Square Bet Premier can be assured that live matches will commence this weekend via Channel 433, at a minimum rate of £3 per month, and as little disruption to the current fixture list will take place as possible. The Football Conference and Premier Sports has identified this partnership opportunity and recognise there is a niche market for all football fans who love the game at the level at which the competition plays.

Michael Haswell Benefit Night: Billericay Town are holding a benefit night for ex-Clarets left-back Mickey Haswell, who broke his ankle in two places during Town’s last pre-season friendly game against Romford and is likely to be out of action for three months. The event will take place in the clubhouse at New Lodge on Saturday 4th September and runs from 7:00pm until late. Tickets are available for £5 from Billericay Town FC now or you can turn up on the night. Entry includes karaoke, a DJ, a buffet and a raffle. All the proceeds go to Mickey, to help him out during this tough time.

49 Club - Recent Winners: City’s winners for the National Lottery Bonus Ball Draw on Saturday 28th August were Daniel Brown and Martin Bissett as the number 27 earned them a cash prize. Seven days earlier the number 1 netted David Ring, plus Martin again, a financial boost for the week. Martin has a stake in every number, though he always hands his winnings back to the club every week. Learn more about this vital revenue stream for the club in the ‘Clarets’ section of www.chelmsfordcityfc.com.

Blue Square Confirm Monthly Award Winners: The Blue Square Bet South Manager of the Month for August has been confirmed as Mark Goldberg from Bromley. The Kent club finished the month with an unblemished one hundred per cent record after some difficult looking fixtures. Goldberg’s side beat pre-season title favourites Havant & Waterlooville before important victories over local rivals Welling United and Bishop’s Stortford. Meanwhile, the Player of the Month for August is Nathan McDonald from Braintree Town. The Iron goalkeeper has been in fantastic form and kept five clean sheets in six matches, making some incredible saves as Town remained unbeaten.
