City will have a brand new sponsor’s name on their First Team shirts for 2010/11 after local builder’s merchants Chandler Material Supplies were unveiled just prior to the England vs Slovenia game at Melbourne Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

They made the most of a raffle-based arrangement where a single payment of £500 could gain one entry into the exclusive draw for sponsorship rights on the kit, as well as all replicas sold during the campaign. This took place at the Clubhouse before the win for Fabio Capello’s men and the Widford Road business were picked out at random.

Chandlers are a local, independent merchant based close to Hylands Park. They boast an extensive range of building materials from major manufacturers and offer quality and a reliable service. Advice and product information is always available and Chandlers are able to source supplies for bathrooms, plumbing, landscaping, structural work and other decorating. Their website can be found at www.buildersmerchantsessex.co.uk.

Clarets Commercial Manager, Aaron Desmond, explained: “It was encouraging to see so many local businesses coming forward to support the raffle and we thank them all for taking part in difficult times. We brought £11,000 into the club and it was great that Chandlers won as they’ve been supporters for some time. I enjoyed being amongst so many at the Clubhouse for the England games so far. We’ve made it the place to be!”

City’s Legends Secure Four New Signings! Preparations for the Chelmsford City Legends’ match at home to an Arsenal Celebrity XI on Sunday 4th July at Melbourne have been handed a boost with the news that Colin Johnson, Steve Portway and Robbie Garvey have been added to the Clarets’ squad.

Johnson is a long-serving Claret who appeared on the left from 1981 through to 1992 at New Writtle Street while Steve Portway, one of the non-league game’s greatest ever marksmen, forged a lethal partnership with Gary Bennett for Chelmsford in 2000-01 and still finds the net in the Essex Olympian League for Harold Wood Athletic to this day.

Popular midfield enforcer Garvey has recently relinquished his manager duties at Braintree Town and is looking forward to his return to the fray almost as much as the fans on the terraces! Meanwhile Mick Loughton, who spent 1970-78 as a player and 1977-84 as manager at City, has confirmed that he will act as gaffer on the day!

The big kick-off will be at 3:00pm, with entertainment scheduled beforehand. Proceeds will go to the Prince’s Trust’s GetIntoFootball programme, which is due to begin shortly at Melbourne in conjunction with City, and tickets are £7 for adults, £1 for kids and only £15 for a family of four. Refreshments will also be on sale to accompany the festivities.

The City Legends will now include: Frank Bishop (1979-85); Peter Gillott (1959-70); Tony Butcher (1957-71); Denis Longhorn (1983-86); Kevin Foster (1983-99); Mick Tiffen (1977-91); Terry O’Donnell (1978-81); Keith Goodwin (1978-91); Ken Wigley (1977-80); Phil Thrift (1982-91); Matt Jones (1990-2004); Paul Goyette (1992); Ian Cambridge (1997-2002), Colin Johnson (1981-92), Steve Portway (2000-01), Robbie Garvey (1993-97). Manager: Mick Loughton (1970-78 as a player,  1977-84 as Manager). Also invited: Mick Loughton, Gary Britnell and Chris Tovey.
