Friday Update: The challenge is underway! Follow our brave walkers' progress live at http://chelmsfordcitysoapbox84887.yuku.com/forums/2
Sponsorship monies are still being collected by Jon Read and his 13 brave companions ahead of this Friday’s 24-hour challenge in the Peak District where they will trek for 50 miles to raise money for Essex Air Ambulance, and ground improvements at Melbourne.
The group plan to set off from Sheffield, walk south around Bakewell, then return back up again. They will be heading through rough terrain and have up to 24 hours in which to walk as far as they all can, up to a maximum of 50 miles. The challenge is tough, with statistics indicating only a 30% completion rate and, what’s more, the crew are paying for the cost themselves, so the support of as many sponsors as possible is required to make their fantastic efforts worthwhile and secure covered terracing behind one goal.
Clarets supporters have already donated thousands towards this project through many events, but the clan would be sent away with a massive boost if they could muster some extra financial support before they leave. Ring or text Jon Read on (07825) 303068 or E-Mail jon.read@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk for details of how to make a valued pledge.
