After a disappointing performance last week, City produced one of their best of the season with an emphatic  display and passing game on a hard pitch in hot and humid conditions.

With several team players missing, City welcomed back Charlie Knight after his broken wrist sustained during the Cup semi final against Maldon.

From the kickoff, both teams attacked and soon the Stanway keeper had to make a save from a Rose free kick.

Stanway started to force City back with continued pressure, but the defence was limiting Stanway into long range shots which Harrison comfortably dealt with.

City nearly scored when a Rickard cross just eluded Brown at the far post, and Rose found Brown  with a cross whose half volley went inches wide of the goal.

Rickard’s strength up front was paying off for Allen to find space and his excellent shot forced the Stanway keeper into a fine save, and also to tip over the bar after an Allen lob.

City’s pressure paid off when a Rose free kick found Hayward lunging in at the far post to score to make it 1-0 to City.

City piled on the pressure and nearly scored another when a Brown corner found Rickard at the near post whose header was turned away by the Stanway keeper for yet another  corner.

The pressure paid off when a neat exchange of passes down the left found Allen whose low driven shot hit the inside of the post and went in to make it 2-0 to City.

City nearly scored twice again when Brown was put in after a through ball by C Knight, but the Stanway keeper made a fine save to thwart him.

Stanway’s only serious attack of the half came with their left back striking a shot against the outside of the post, but the City defence never looked like it was in trouble with all defensive players playing well and being marshalled by Hayward.

Half Time whistle blew with City leading 2-0.

The second half started with no substitutions made by City, Brown had a shot from an acute angle which went over the bar, but Stanway reminded them of the need to concentrate when Hayward made a last ditch tackle to thwart their Striker honing in on goal.

Good passing between Fenton and Rose found City get a throw which was taken quickly by Rose who found Rickard, whose trickery found him bearing down on goal and shoot, but the keeper made a fine save but could only parry it onto the onrushing Brown who slotted it home to make it 3-0.

Due to the balmy conditions, coach Larry Bayford made quick substitutions with Smith on for Rose, Yasin on for C.Knight , who got a knock, T.Hession-Harris on for Heapey(injured), and F.Hession-Harris on for Allen.

Harrison made two excellent saves from a free kick and a point blank header to keep City’s clean sheet in tact.

The full time whistle blew to make it  a deserved 3-0 win to City .
