As the second half began, Chelmsford often found themselves under pressure in front of their eighteen yard line. However with some stout and determined defending, Writtle where kept at bay and City had a great chance for an equaliser on the break.
Harry Payne held the ball up superbly on the half way line, bringing Luke Prudence into play on the left, and the ball was laid off to Connor Horne, but his effort from just outside the penalty box slid wide.
A further break up field, again following some great work by Harry Payne, produced a similar chance, but once again the opportunity to get a much deserved equaliser was spurned.
At this point it was City’s ten men who where playing the better football and Writtle where very fortunate to double their lead following a mix up in Chelmsford’s defence.
At 2-0 down, City continued to play and press the Writtle players, and despite conceding a third goal, following a terrific save by Fred Fisher, which fell in to a Writtle players path, City could be proud of their effort.
They competed superbly, and for much of the game it looked as though Writtle only had ten players. This was a performance the boys should be proud of, and if they show similar desire until the end of the season, their league position should soon pick up.
