It was a physical game with both teams taking no prisioners and the impressive Jack Heapey along with Rickard in central midfield did not shirk their responsibilities as the tackles went flying in.
Rose went off and Warren Harrison came on.
Adam Knight chased a ball down the left and cut in on the box and was brought down and George Rickard floated a good free kick over but the boys were unable to take advantage. With the game end to end Maldon broke down the left and scored great goal which the unlucky Senior was unable to get down to.
The second half saw Chelmsford look more likely to score and Knight chased a long ball with defenders closing him down but evaded their challenges to blast it past the keeper to make up for his penalty miss. New signings Samir Zamir and Tom Bazzard came on for Edey and Brown. Rose came back on for Allen.
Maldon were awarded a dubious free kick and scored as a result at far post.
Not to be out done Chelmsford carved out a chance down the left with Rose, Knight and Harrison combining in neat passing move which saw Harrison unlucky when he was in on goal but the shot went wide. Rickard had a long range effort on goal as City created chances.
Minutes later Rose combined with Knight again who lobbed the ball over to Harrison who jumped to head the ball goal wards but a Maldon defender connected with the ball and headed it past his own keeper.
Fenton, White, Edey and Hayward were awesome in defence and once again Aaron Senior was outstanding in goal. The two new players did well when they came on.
