Ipswich Athletic 1 City U15's Elite 3
Subs: Allen, Senior
City performance today was 10 times better than when they lost to Ipswich a few weeks ago.
They started brightly with Adam Knight rising for a header with the keeper and headed it back to Warren Harrison on the edge of the area who saw his shot just clear the bar with the keeper beaten. With both strikers looking lively it looked as though it was going to be a good day, but Ipswich nearly ruined their bright start when a breakaway saw their striker just put the ball wide.
However Brown on the right started to cause problems and he put a fine cross over from the byeline when being closed down, the cross found Knight who laid it back to Josh Rose who sent an absolute screamer from the edge of the area that gave the keeper no chance. George Rickard nearly made it two with a mazy run down the left and cut along the bye line only to see his shot skim the outside of the far post.
Not to be outdone Athletic broke away on the right and sent a screamer on goal which beat the unlucky Harrison who managed to get a hand to it.
Warren Harrison was unlucky when Knight sent in a cross from the left but the keeper just managed to get there first.
Jack Heapey, Rickard, Brown and Rose bossed the midfield with Heapey playing like a man possesed but encompassing the spirit of all the boys today and incurring a few knocks resulting in coming off for a couple of minutes. Fenton, White, Hayward and Edey were awesome and gave the bright Ipswich team very little margins to score. Fenton who had been suffering from a stomach infection positional play was outstanding.
City increased the lead when Knight won the ball on the left and went on a run into the area beating two players before slotting it past the keeper as he raced out to go take his goal count into double figures.
With the wind behind them Ipswich put the boys under pressure at the beginning of the second half but they battled hard with the White and Hayward winning everything in the air. Edey blocked a free kick taking the ball in the face.
With time marching on manager Larry went 5 in midfield but this did not stop the boys. Rickard made another great run down the right and crosse for the unmarked Rose but the ball got stuck under his feet when le looked odds on to score.
However the boys continued to press and Jack White rose to head a great goal from a Brown free kick to cap a wonderful performance. Knight nearly got a second from a corner with his back to goal sending the shot just wide. Warren Harrison and George Rickard combined superbly toward the end of the match with a great one two but the keeper saved.
Fenton was replaced by Rory Allen who came on and showed great skill with a run down the left
This was a really pleasing result and the watching injured Charlie Knight who will be greatly missed was a lucky charm to the boys today,
