Glenn Pennyfather hopes new impact signing, goal-getter Warren McBean from Bromley, can help fire the Clarets into the Blue Square Premier after the 24-year-old former Barnet striker signed a loan deal on Tuesday night which will see him line-up at Melbourne for the rest of the current campaign.
The inventive striker, who is known for his love of running at defenders and netting on a prolific basis, is currently amongst the very top scorers in the Blue Square South and City’s boss sees his capture as a major boost, saying: “This is a massive signing. He will excite people and I know the Claret Army will love him because he’s a young man capable of firing the goals that will be so important in this crucial run-in for us.”
McBean, who could line-up against Bromley for Chelmsford this Saturday, started his career with Barnet after progressing from their Youth Team and he was part of their 2004/05 squad which won the Conference title. From there he moved down a division to Farnborough Town on a one-year deal, becoming their top scorer, then brief spells at Cambridge United and St Albans City at the start of 2006/07 eventually saw him land at Sutton United, where he top-scored for two further seasons.
His current club, Bromley, have benefitted from Warren’s predatory instinct since the start of last season, again as the leading marksman for both campaigns, and the popular forward has already netted 18 Blue Square South goals this season, including a brace at home to Worcester City on 13th March. The former England Under 19s Colleges talent once also toured the USA on international duty and impressed when he scored twice in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Charlton Athletic Reserves against Chelsea recently.
Pennyfather continued: “He’s with us for the rest of this season then we’ll take it from there. We’re lucky to have some quality strikers at this club who all offer us something different, giving us options, and they can all enjoy participating in a side which is creating chances. Ricky Modeste is also due to play for the Reserves to mark his recovery and we hope between them they have enough goals to get us where we want to be.”
