Another fine league win
Chelmsford Youth League
Sunday 13th December 2009
Chelmsford City A 4 Wilvale Rangers 1
The match was played on a fresh winter’s morning; Wilvale started the quicker and went close to taking the lead but were kept out by some determined defending from Jacob Lodge and Archie McClelland. The deservedly took the lead when they broke through and gave Harry Gooch no chance in goal. This prompted the home team to pick up the pace of the game and they started to make a number of attacks with full back Nathan Markham advancing forward and James Barry dribbled his way into the box and his shot was expertly tipped over by the keeper. They kept on exerting pressure but the keeper was in fine form to deny Ellis Casey and Tyrese Fairmaner levelling.
Finally with the half time approaching Bradley Buscall battled his way into the box and was able to hold off the defence and slot the ball past to make it level at half time.
Chelmsford came out in the second half determined to win the game and enjoyed a lot of possession passing it around on a difficult pitch. They were getting frustrated as they were unable to take their chances until the ball broke to Fairmaner and from a tight angle he fired an unstoppable shot to take the lead. City were now in their stride and almost immediately added the third as Barry beat 2 defenders and then knocked it sideways to allow Buscall to fire into an empty net. At the back Harrison Woods was outstanding as he nullified the attacks and then set off on a number of rampaging attacks which led to efforts just going wide. He then got the goal he deserved as Lodge started the attack and combined with Barry to feed the ball into the box, Woods continued his run and just beat team mate Buscall to it and fired a rocket into the top corner.
A great performance from the boys as they responded well to going a goal down, they dominated the game from that point with some fine passing in difficult conditions.
