In a match full of both desire and good passing football by both teams, an even contest was won for Chelmsford by Jared Cousins in the last minute. On a day when securing all three points was paramount for City, each and every player in the squad played their part in helping to produce City’s best display of the season, and the 2-1 scoreline was perhaps just about a fair reflection of the game.

From the first whistle to the last, this game was played with fantastic spirit, and though Dunmow had the better of the early exchanges, it was City who created the  clearest opening with a glancing header from Matthew Lambert just falling wide of the right hand post. Both teams proceeded to keep the ball on the floor, often playing expansive flowing football, and a corner routine from the training ground nearly brought City the opening goal on fifteen minutes, but the ball just would not drop kindly enough, and Dunmow scrambled it clear. Surprisingly, the teams went in goalless at half time.

The second half proceeded in a similar fashion to the first, but this time Chelmsford’s passing football paid early dividends. With City’s more combative midfield winning plenty of tackles, in particular Jordan Robertson, who put in an inspired display, it was Connor Horne who put Chelmsford one up on 35 minutes. Some fantastic interplay and close passing led to a half chance just inside Dunmow’s penalty box, and Connor stroked it home.

Dunmow though kept passing and competing, and equalised with a scrappy close range effort, and a draw looked the likely outcome. However, City held their nerve, and with a rapid break up field, following a Dunmow corner, Jared Cousins grabbed the late winner that City’s display warranted.
