Essex County FA Womens Cup Quarter-Final, played at Polo Fields, Hall Green Lane, Hutton, Brentwood on Sunday 24th January 2010, kick-off 1.30pm.

City made it through to the semi-finals after overcoming a tricky tie against a determined Hutton side on Sunday with three second half goals.

Sarah Jolly went close within the first few minutes for City before both Helen Alder and Rachel Armstrong had efforts saved after Leanne Stubbings free kick parried by the keeper.

Hutton started to get into their stride and fought back strong and on the 19 minutes were ahead with a well taken goal. City's Jolly was denied twice by the cross bar as both teams continued to battle in a physical game. Chances were created at both ends and the half ended with a Hutton forward being beaten to a through ball by City's keeper Jade Parker, was quick off of her line to deny the striker.

The second half saw City raise there game but to their credit Hutton were persistent, belying their lower league status. City finally got the equaliser they craved 58 mins with a brave finish by Jasmine Wheeler.

This now saw City start to get in their stride and were soon in front following an inch perfect ball from Alder which saw Emma Ridings who finished in her usual lethal style.

Fresh legs were introduced in the form of Zoe Strong and Emma Wells who both had an immediate effect with their speed and skill. Both Alder and Jolly went close again with fine efforts while at the other end, Hutton’s counter-attacks saw Parker pull off two double saves to deny the home team.

Kerri Binks saw her well struck free kick saved by the Hutton keeper but minutes later, City netted their third goal which sealed the tie. A good link up between Strong and Georgia Wheate saw Jolly’s close range shot go in following a scramble in the box.

City had further attempts with first Jolly and then Alder going close but they had done enough to book a home tie in the semi finals against fellow Premier Division outfit Braintree Town.

Manager Clare Andrews commented after the game, ‘Having not played a game for a while we were eager to prove a point today but to their credit Hutton were fantastic and a very strong team. They played better then us in the first half and fully deserved the lead going into the break. We came out strong in the second half and fitness was evident, a fantastic second half and an entertaining Quarter final. I wish Hutton all the best for their season, they are a promising side to look out for in the future.

We now go through to the Semi finals where we will meet our Premier Rivals Braintree on the 14th February’.
