Clarets News Round-Up
Bob Batchford’s young Reserve Team were comfortable 3-1 winners at Witham Town tonight (Monday) in a President’s Cup game away at Spa Road, striker Rob Edmans smashing a hat-trick against his old side in a match which also featured injury returnee, Simon Glover.
With two 16-year-olds bossing the centre of midfield the Clarets were 3-0 ahead by half-time, all three goals coming via neat build-up play from defence. Six passes were completed from the back before Edmans rifled home his first, with his next goal coming via a text book header. The tall forward then beat a handful of players prior to notching his third and Batchford was pleased with his side’s performance.
“In truth we could have gone out there in the second half and scored a few more,” he revealed after seeing the Under 18s beat Wivenhoe Town 4-0 on Sunday in another game which could have yielded more goals. “We have a great team here but we need to learn to kill teams off. All three goals were really classy and the First Teamers who played all did really well, including Simon, Ricky [Modeste] and Tyrone [Scarlett].”
Meanwhile, the majority of the Clarets’ Reserve Team will be participating in next the Under 18s game against Dulwich Hamlet away in the FA Youth Cup Third Qualifying Round on Wednesday 21st October at 7:45pm. A coach has been arranged for the fixture, priced at £10 for adults and £6 for under 16s, with departure times of 16:45pm from the Clubhouse and 17:00 from opposite the County Hotel. The admission prices at the game itself will be £4 for adults and £2 for concessions. Seats can be booked by calling Mark Fleming on (07506) 873741.
