Supporters Club fundraiser

Intrepid City supporters are already girding their loins for a mammoth fundraising challenge at the close of the 2009/2010 season.

Following on from the successful Three Peaks jaunt in 2008, raising £3,000 for the club and helping to fund the players tunnel, the lads will turn their attention to the Peak District of South Yorkshire in a hugely challenging attempt to complete a 50 mile circular route in only 24 hours. It’ll be Mars Bars and Compede’s at the ready, as at least 15 of City’s regulars will put themselves under the microscope during the weekend of May 21 – 23rd, 2010.

50 miles for the club

The participants have a maximum of 50 miles to yomp across the hills, but are able to stop when they have had enough – although their sponsorship pledges may be affected by this. It looks like being a battle of stubbornness and stamina laced with camaraderie with a hint of stupidity.

The book isn’t yet closed on entrants for this – if you fancy more information or are definitely up for it, please see Jon Read whilst at the ground, or ring/text on 07825 303068.

The purpose of the event is an important one – we are aiming to completely fund two whole sections of the roof terracing, as part of the ongoing ‘Raise the Roof’ scheme. For this to come to fruition, the lads will need to put serious effort in, and rely on the continued amazing goodwill of all City fans.

In a testing financial time, we are well aware that money is still tight so a simple request is out there for help if you can manage it. For this to take place, and for maximum exposure and fundraising, we would love to hear from anyone who would like to help us with our travel costs. We’ll need to fund our own minibuses, and any help with this will really take the pressure off. The minibuses will be our support vehicles, so are hugely necessary.

How your business can get involved

Would any business or individual like to have their name attached to the whole event? Do we have any companies that can assist with the provisions and equipment required? Any offers would be gratefully received.

Imagine how impressive and raucous we can make our ground with the roofing going up? You could seriously help this happen for 2010.

We also hope to raise a tidy sum for the Essex Air Ambulance. It costs around £150,000 per month to keep the helicopter flying, and a donation will be made to these guys just prior to departure time, at the last home game of this season. Not only can you help the club with vital ground developments, you’ll be weighing in with a significant chunk to this fantastic charity.

Thanks for your time, and we’d love to hear from you with any offers of help. Following that, please support the guys when the approach you for pledges early next year – they are paying out of their pocket to attempt this event and all in the Supporters Club owe these fans a great debt of thanks.
